Finding a job is one of the most important—and often most stressful—parts of life. It impacts confidence, stability, and independence. While support exists, it can be difficult to navigate and doesn’t always lead to real outcomes. Afinia was created to change that by helping individuals and families turn support into structured pathways that lead to meaningful work.
After years working in hiring, leadership, and team building, we saw firsthand what employers actually look for—and how easy it is for people to get overlooked without the right support. We’ve worked closely with individuals across different stages, helping them build confidence and understand how to approach the process.
At the same time, through personal experience with the Self-Determination Program, we saw how complicated things can feel for families trying to navigate available services. That perspective shaped Afinia—bringing together real hiring experience and a deeper understanding of the challenges people face along the way.
Tianqi Wu is Co-Founder and Director of Operations at Afinia. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Media Communications from Anyang Institute of Technology in China and brings experience in business management, operations, administration, and marketing. Her work focuses on building the systems, organization, and communication that help programs run smoothly and create a positive experience for participants and families.
Having navigated education, work, and cultural transitions herself, Tianqi understands many of the challenges individuals face when trying to build confidence, adapt to new environments, and pursue meaningful opportunities.
At Afinia, she helps coordinate services, support families, and develop pathways that connect people with the resources, guidance, and opportunities they need to grow toward greater independence and employment success.
Jeshua Stevens is a co-founder of Afinia and brings over 20 years of experience in hiring, team leadership, and creative direction. Throughout his career, he has built and managed teams, reviewed countless applicants, and developed a clear understanding of what employers look for—and what often gets overlooked. At Afinia,
